How Much Does a Custom Driveway Gate Cost in Houston?

Short answer: most custom steel driveway gates we fabricate and install around Houston land between $2,000 and $5,000. Add an automatic opener and you are usually looking at another $1,500 to $2,500. Very wide openings, ornate scrollwork, and brick or stone columns push the number up from there.

Here is what actually moves the price, so you can read a quote instead of guessing.

The five things that set the price

1. Width of the opening. A 12 foot single swing gate uses a lot less steel than a 20 foot dual swing. Steel is priced by weight, and labor scales with it.

2. Height and design. A 5 foot flat-top gate with straight pickets is the base. An arched top, a Lone Star medallion, scroll work, or solid panels along the bottom add cutting and welding time.

3. Posts. Steel posts set in concrete are included in our starting price. If you want brick or stone columns, that is masonry work on top, and it usually adds $1,500 to $4,000 per pair depending on size.

4. Automation. A swing opener with keypad and two remotes starts around $1,500 installed. Slide gates, solar kits, and long runs of conduit cost more.

5. Site. A sloped driveway, a gate that has to swing uphill, rock under the post holes, or a long trench for power all add labor.

Why a fabricator beats a fence company on price

Most fence companies buy pre-made gate panels from a supplier, mark them up, and install them. We weld the gate in our own shop in Magnolia. That removes the middleman, and it also means the gate fits your opening exactly instead of the closest catalog size.

What you should get with a quote

• A written price, on paper or by text, before any steel is cut
• A drawing or a photo of a similar gate so you know what you are approving
• Post size and depth spelled out
• Paint or powder finish specified
• Timeline for fabrication and install
