The privacy fence you actually want is the one you never have to rebuild. A cedar fence on a welded steel frame gives you the wood look with posts and rails that do not rot, warp or lean. We build a lot of these around Magnolia and Houston. Here is why.
How it is built
Steel posts set in concrete, steel top and bottom rails welded to the posts, then cedar boards fastened to the frame. Gates get a full welded steel frame with cedar on the face, so they never sag. The wood is the only part that ever needs attention, and replacing a board is a ten-minute job.
What it costs
- All-cedar privacy fence: roughly $30 to $45 per linear foot installed around Houston
- Cedar on a steel frame: our frame starts around $20 per foot, plus the cedar boards, so plan on about $35 to $50 per foot all in

Why posts fail in Houston
Our clay soil holds water against the post every wet season. Treated pine posts rot at the ground line in 8 to 12 years, and once posts go, the whole fence leans. Steel posts in concrete do not care about clay.
The look
Horizontal boards for a modern look, vertical boards for the classic, or a mix with a steel top rail exposed as a design line. Black steel and natural cedar is the combination in every new build in Cypress and The Woodlands right now. Stain or seal the cedar and it stays warm brown instead of going gray.
Gates that stay square
A wood gate sags because the frame is wood. Ours are welded steel with cedar on the face, hung on real hinges, so the latch lines up ten years from now.
HOA friendly
Most HOAs approve cedar privacy fences by default, and a steel frame changes nothing on the outside look. We provide the drawing for the application.
